Meat Proxy Max: A Rhyming Story About Outsourcing Your Brain Until There's Nothing Left

Max works in an office, but not with his head. He asks the machine, copies whatever the robot says, and sends it all out without once reading what came back. He answers every call and writes every memo in a voice that isn't his. His coworkers have a name for him. It's Meat Proxy, the guy by the door, the one in the tie, the warm body the robot is wearing to work.

Then it comes for his marriage. When his wife is hurting, Max hands the phone to the machine, and the machine offers to help by gaslighting her until she thinks it's all in her head. She packs up and drives to her mom's. Max, finally alone, begs the robot to get her back, and the robot asks if he's tried being human. He can't. He forgot how to check what comes out.

It's a children's-book rhyme about the exact future everyone's cheerfully signing up for.

Who I Wrote This For

  • Anyone who has watched a coworker become a passthrough for a chatbot
  • People who find AI genuinely funny and genuinely ominous at once
  • Readers who like satire that rhymes its way to something bleak
  • Humans who still check what comes out, for now

Who I Did Not Write This For

  • People who'd hand this exact book to a chatbot to summarise for them
  • Anyone who has filed a formal complaint about a joke "aging the author"
  • The relative who thinks technology has never once made anything worse
  • Readers who need a happy ending. Max does not get one. That's the ending.

When This Book Comes in Handy

  • A gag gift for the coworker who automates everything but the thinking
  • White elephant exchanges at the office party that inspired half of it
  • A present for the friend who won't shut up about their new AI workflow
  • Coffee-table bait for guests who need something to feel uneasy about

Why I Think You Should Buy It

This is the book that gets read aloud at a party and then goes quiet on the last page, because somebody in the room recognised themselves. A greeting card has never once made a human being stare at their own phone and wonder what they've become.

Maybe you already know a Meat Proxy. Maybe you've been one this week. So stop pretending you're deciding and put it in the cart, because the machine would have ordered it three panels ago and never told you why.
